FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

At Marna Physio we take your queries and concerns very seriously. This page explores some of most commonly asked questions about Physiotherapy. Whether it is your first time at the clinic or you are a frequent flyer, we are here to help!

  • What should I expect in the first appointment?
At Marna Physio we believe it is important to establish your purpose for seeking an appointment with us. Everyone is an individual so there is no ONE RECIPE for how we will conduct your appointment. What we do know is that everyone wants clear answers to these 3 key questions What is my injury? What caused it? How long will it take to fix? We will conduct a comprehensive assessment including questions related to your condition and general health, performing movements, and our hands on skills. This combination provides us with the valuable and unique information specific to you. We will then educate and discuss with you how you are going to get back on track to achieve the best you! We use a variety of treatment strategies – all of which are discussed with you first. These can include: Soft tissue massage Joint mobilisations Dry needling / acupuncture Therapist assisted mobility exercises A home exercise program A return to sport/activity program Hydrotherapy Gym program and supervision
  • How long are the sessions?
A standard treatment session is 30 minutes however we are more than happy to discuss extended consults.
  • How many sessions will I require?
This is highly variable and is decided in collaboration with you. It will depend on your diagnosis, your response to treatment, and what path you would like to take. If you have any barriers that prevent you from visiting a physiotherapist on multiple visits please kindly discuss this with your therapist - this is important for us to know and we can discuss the best approach for you in every circumstance.
  • I am not injured or in pain, can a physiotherapist still help me?"
Absolutely! A physiotherapist can provide specific gym programs, education, and advice around maintaining general health, optimising or improving your activity, help reduce the likelihood of injury, and much much more! We often get patients walk in and say “I want to start running or I want to start going to the gym, where can I start?”
  • What do I need to bring to my appointment?
In most cases just yourself in comfortable clothes is great! If any of the following applies to you then please bring along: Imaging/investigations Work cover claim details / TAC claim details Referral from GP, specialist, sports physician, or other allied health practitioner
  • What should I wear to my appointment?
Please wear comfortable clothing that allows exposure to the body part(s) being treated. Your physiotherapist will use towels to maintain dignity. We do please ask that you maintain high levels of hygiene including wearing clean underwear/garments, and showering if you are coming straight from exercise.
  • Can I bring someone else into the session with me?
Absolutely. We encourage a second pair of eyes and ears at your appointment. This can be beneficial to recall information discussed and exercises prescribed by your physio. Some patients also feel more comfortable and relaxed with a family member present for their physio session.
  • How do I book an appointment? Is there a waiting list?
You can book online by clicking this link and waiting lists are also available. We also accept phone bookings and walk in bookings!
  • Do I need to visit my GP prior to booking?
No, a referral is not required unless you are claiming through work cover, TAC, a Veterans Affairs patient or seeing us through a care plan. If you are unsure what option is best for you, please feel free to call us and one of our reception staff or physio’s will happily chat to you.
  • Can I claim through my private health insurance?
Yes, depending on your private health extra’s cover, physiotherapy is claimable. We have a HICAPS machine onsite to process these payments so they can be done on the spot! There is usually a gap payment that varies for each insurer.
  • I am covered under work cover, can I use this for physiotherapy sessions?"
Yes. We are very experienced with work cover claims and can take the worry out of this sometimes confusing process for you. Please mention this when booking your session or at your initial appointment. If you have your relevant referral paperwork including claim numbers that would be great, if not we can help chase this up for you.
  • I am covered under VIC roads (TAC), can I use this for physiotherapy sessions?"
Yes. We treat and have successfully transitioned hundreds of people back to full health post car accidents. Please mention this when booking your session or at your initial appointment. If you have your relevant referral paperwork including claim numbers that would be great, if not we can help chase this up for you.
